The aim of education is to achieve comprehensive development of personality, andlife-long development. Comprehensive development of personality and life-long developmentput forward higher requirements of the overall quality of the people, especially the humanities,and the core of the humanities is philosophical literacy. However, our high school biologyteaching is still widespread focus on science education only but neglect humanities education.The phenomenon of neglecting abilities but focusing on scores still exists, so the authorproposed the subject of the development of philosophical literacy of high school students inbiology teaching.Firstly, according to lots of background research with literature method on the subject ofthe philosophical literacy development of high school students in high school biology teaching,the author found out its significance and research status, pointed out the deficiencies in thisresearch, which affirmed the value of this research, and determined the direction, methods,content and purpose of this study. Secondly, the author defined two core concepts on the subject,philosophy and philosophical literacy. And according to the study of individual developmentalpsychology, and the basic point of view of modern educational theories such as humanismtheory, constructivism theory, and multiple intelligences theory, for the shortage of high schoolbiology teaching, the author developed an implementation proposal of developing high schoolstudents’philosophical literacy in high school biology teaching, for the purpose of improvingthe quality of high school biology teaching and the overall development of students. Theproposal included the principles, the contents, the methods, and the problems which should bepaid attention to. The author also gave an example of implementing the proposal. Again, afterthe proposal was finalized, the author selected an experimental class and a control class, and didan experiment of biology teaching to verify its effectiveness. After the experiment finished, theresults were statistically analyzed. The results showed that both of the biological academicperformance and the philosophical literacy of the experimental class were significantly betterthan the control class. The results of the teaching experiment proved that teaching biology withthe proposal of strengthening the development of high school students’philosophical literacy implemented in this article, can significantly improve students’academic performance ofbiology; can help students to form a clear and correct attitude towards learning, and to increasethe interest in learning biology; and also can improve students’ philosophy of literacy, to helpstudents to establish a world outlook of dialectical materialism, to form a positive and healthyattitude towards life and lifestyle, to understand the relationships correctly among science,technology, society three , to establish the view of ecology and the view of sustainabledevelopment, and to form the scientific spirit and attitude of questioning, truth-seeking,innovating and practicing.
