With the rise of positive psychology, optimistic as a positive personality trait was given more and more people’s attention. Previous studies have shown that optimism is closely related to the mental health. This study developes the Explanatory Style Questionnaire, examines the quality of middle school students optimistic and explanatory style, explores the correlation between optimistic and explanatory style among middle school students, and make recommendations for the development of middle school students optimistic quality. The results showed:1. From the actual life events of middle school students, the Explanatory Style Questionnaire was revised. The questionnaire has good reliability and validity after tests.2. The optimistic quality of middle school students are significant differences in gender, grade and parenting styles. Father’s different education levels are significantly differently from each other, neither do the mother’s different education levels.3. Explanatory style is divided into four dimensions,comparison, internal and external, stability and universality. Boys and girls in universality exist significantly differences; junior high school students and high school students in internal and external exist significantly differences, and junior high school students scores significantly higher than high school students in internal and external; middle school students of different father upbringing ways are significantly different in comparison and total scores, and different mother upbringing ways link with difference in comparison, stability,universality and total scores, middle school students, whose father and mother of different educational level have no significant difference in explanatory styles.3.The four dimensions of Explanatory style and positive Explanatory style are significantly correlate. We can develop middle school students’ positive Explanatory styie and the quality of optimistic through group psychology tutorship, family and community education.
