Teaching material is the important part of the implementation of the new EnglishCurriculum. Choosing and using the proper teaching material is the premise of finishing theteaching content and achieving the objectives of teaching. A high level and quality teachingmaterial can take an active effect on teachers, students, teaching process and the teaching results.Along with the implement of a new round of the curriculum reform, there appeared differentversions of English teaching materials. How to choose a teaching material and which teachingmaterial can be used are problems we must focus on. Therefore, a scientific analysis andsystematic evaluation of the teaching material is much more important when we facing differentkinds of teaching material. It is obviously that we can see the significance of the analysis of theteaching materials. It is useful for the educational administration department, schools and theteachers to make the right decision for choosing the teaching material. Anymore, it also doeswell to the teachers on how to use or adjust the teaching material in the actual teaching process.This article is based on the Full-time senior middle school English curriculum standardspublished by the Ministry of Education(NECS)in 2003. Focusing on the NSEFC’s functionsand features of the English subject, the paper will do an analysis on the PEP version of seniormiddle school English textbooks so that we could find the deviation between NSEFC and NECSand whether the textbooks are fit for the teachers and the students. Then it points out thestrengths and weaknesses of the new textbooks and gives some effective measures on how to usethe textbooks so as to complete the teaching goals.The paper can be divided into four parts:The first part: Introduction. This part includes the reason of choosing this subject,introduces the relevant achievement of the teaching material’s study, and also includes the ideasand viewpoints home and abroad about study of the teaching materials. Meantime, this partmakes a brief introduction of the subject’s objectives, significance and the study methods,providing a theoretical background and study frame for the later research.The second part: The text analysis of the PEP version senior middle school Englishtextbooks. This is the core of this article; firstly it makes a brief introduction about the principlesfor compiling. The paper focuses on detailed analysis from the textbook knowledge systems and the contents of NSEFC to find the existing problems. The paper expects that we can find thedeviation between NSEFC and NECS.The third part: The investigation and research on the use of NSEFC. This part gathers andsummarizes all the relevant documents and the investigation of its use. Also it concludes andgeneralizes feedback information about using the textbook from teachers and students. Then thepaper makes an analysis about the problems in the implementation of the NSEFC.The fourth part: There are some suggestions on the use of NSEFC. According to the overallgrasp of NSEFC, the paper provides teachers and editors with some related suggestions to useand improve the teaching materials better. The writer hopes that this study could offer somebenefit help for teachers’teaching and the use of teaching materials.
