Study On Mao’s View On Science And Technology

Mao Zedong is not only the great revolutionist, strategist and ideologist, but also the great theorist of Marxism. He led Chinese people to victory during the period of New-democratic revolution and Chinese socialist transformation as the foremost leader of the People’s Republic of China. Not only did he make great contributions to such fields as politics, philosophy, military, culture, education and science and technology, but also he wrote a large amount of works which gradually formed into Maoism which has been the most important guideline and treasure in the stage of socialist revolution and construction. Focusing on a socialist modern and strong country, Mao’s opinions on the science and technology play an important part in Maoism. On one hand, the advanced theories develop and improve Marxist views on science and technology, they also creates and develops Marxism with Chinese characteristics; on the other hand, as the guiding in the science and technology construction of New China, These concepts guided New China to the first golden period of development in science and technology. What’s more, these opinions have always been significant driving force in the development of China’s science and technology and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.As the commemoration of the120th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birthday, this thesis intends to make a systematic analysis of Mao’s views about science and technology, in honor of his great contributions on science and technology in China. Through comparing and analyzing comprehensively Mao’s own works and thesis about his views on science and technology from academic circles, the thesis tries to explore the forming conditions and deep thoughts under the help of the world outlook and methodology of Marxism. Meanwhile, from the theoretical and realistic angle, this thesis will analyze the value of Mao’s views in the construction of New China and the present stage. Based on dialectical materialism, it will also make an objective comment on Mao’views in the consideration of the background that Mao lived which makes Maoism more epochal and more frontier.The introduction proposes the research issues about Mao Zedong’s view of science and technology, expounds the research status from the domestic and foreign scholars on Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology. Through pointing out the question and the insufficiency in the process of the research, the thesis will make clear the writing content and significance.The first chapter analyzes the subjective and objective conditions of the formation of Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology and its historical evolvement process.The second chapter elaborates on the basic contents of Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology in detail. Among them, the first part discusses Mao Zedong’s view about the nature of science from the theory of knowledge, law and activity and makes a summary of Mao Zedong’s view about the essence of technology. The second part discusses the role of political, economic, cultural, philosophical factors for science and technology. The third part elaborates the promoting effect of science and technology for such five aspects as the political struggle, productivity improvement and consolidation of national defense, thought’s development and social change. The fourth part is the focus of this chapter, it analyzes of Mao Zedong’s views on planning and leadership of science and technology, talents’ training and use of science and technology, spirits of scientific creations, independent development of science and technology. Then, It also makes the corresponding comment on these views.The third chapter describes the theoretical position and practical value of Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology. Firstly, according to the content of the first chapter and the second chapter, it makes a summary and induction to the features of Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology. Secondly, it analyzes the theoretical position and practical value of Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology around its characteristics. Finally, it makes an objective summary through dialectically reviewing the achievements and problems in the practical process of exploration about Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology.The conclusion makes the interpretation of the innovation of Mao Zedong’s view on science and technology and points out the shortage of this research and indicates our work in the future.
