Research On The Citizen Consciousness And Its Cultivation In An Environment Of A Harmonious Society

Citizen consciousness means a citizen conscious awareness of his national master status,his lawful rights and obligations and it also includes his consciousness of participation inpolitical and social affairs in accordance with the law and ethic standards. It is not only thebasic quality a modern citizen must have, but also shows how modernized a country is. Themodernization of its people shows how modernized a country is. At the moment democracyand legal systems as well as a harmonious society are being building up in our country andthe implement of all these depends on the consciousness of its citizens without whichdemocracy and legal systems as well as social harmony cannot be truly achieved. Therefore itis urgent and necessary to cultivate citizen consciousness in our country in the building up ofa harmonious society.A theoretical analysis on the connotation of citizen consciousness is made in this article.On the basis of the relationship between citizen consciousness and harmonious society thegoals and ways in the cultivation of citizen consciousness are put forward to enrich anddeepen the academic study of citizen consciousness.Besides the introduction three parts are included in the article:Theoretical research is made in the first part. On the basis of clarifying citizenconsciousness and the true meaning of a harmonious society the relationship of the two isdiscussed. It is point out in the article that citizen consciousness is the social psychologicalbasis in building up a harmonious society and that a harmonious society is the necessarysocial environment in the cultivation of citizen consciousness. Theoretical research is thetheoretical basis of this article.Practical analysis is made in the second part. The problems of citizen consciousness andthe reasons for the lack of it as well as its negative influence on the building up of aharmonious society are analyzed. Problems of citizen’s consciousness in our country are asfollows: weakness in legal consciousness, responsibility consciousness, democracyconsciousness, morality consciousness and subject consciousness. Reasons for the lack ofcitizen consciousness are: the restriction of economic development, the imperfection ofcitizen’s rights, the bound of traditional and political culture and the immaturity of a civil society. All these problems are not favorable in the building of interpersonal, social andnatural harmony and hinder the construction of a harmonious society. For this purposepractical analysis is used for the elaboration of this article.The third part of the article is conclusion. In building up a harmonious society the lack ofcitizen consciousness and other unfavorable factors have a negative influence on theconstruction of a harmonious society. Therefore the strategy for the cultivation of citizenconsciousness must be made on the basis of its goal and content. For this purpose thecultivation of qualified citizens for social development must be made the goal in building upcitizen consciousness, democratic and legal consciousness, equality consciousness andmorality consciousness. Ways for this goal are to improve our social market economy, toperfect the mechanism of our civil rights, to strengthen our political and cultural constructionand to construct a civil society.Methods of progression, induction, archival research, historical analysis and acombination of theory and practice are used in the development of this article.The construction of citizen consciousness is a kind of spiritual support in building up aharmonious society and it is also important for the modernization of our country. Thecultivation of citizen consciousness is a complicated project concerning politics, economy,culture, society and many other fields such as individual citizens and society in general. Theexploration on the ways and methods in the cultivation of citizen consciousness is aprogressive process which accompanies the whole process of building up a harmonioussociety.
