Overseas interests are an important part of the national interests, maintaining andexpanding overseas interests is very important to a country’s development. In thecurrent international environment, energy security has become one of the core issuesof a country’s overseas interests. As a part of the overseas economic interests, themaintenance and expansion of the energy security is closely related to the achievementof the other parts of overseas interests. Therefore, the measures which are taken tomaintain the energy security should be run under the overall framework of overseasinterests. As the world’s largest developing country, China’s overseas interests is going intoa new stage. Along with the development of China’s national strength, the layout ofChina’s overseas interests has also increased. The disadvantage on China’s energyresources determines that the expansion of overseas energy resources is of greatsignificance for China to achieve economic and social development goals. At present, China has made many attempts in maintaining the energy security, which cover many fields and has the systematic feature, but China’s energy security, especially the overseas energy security still faces many difficulties and challenges. Therefore, new ideas and solutions should be presented to solve the problems. Thus, the maintenance and expansion of China’s energy security should be run inthe framework of China’s overseas interests, sticking to the principles of “notionestablishing, mode selection, and image display” on which basis can we fulfill the ideaof “safeguarding the one premise and going forward toward the four directions.
