Research On Development Of Chinese Associations From The Perspective Of Governance Theory

With further development of global association revolution, in the modern state,associations have become the third power parallel to government and market, and isactive in many social field such as social welfare, environmental protection,humanitarian relief, educational research, health care and so on. Since reform andopening-up, China’s social organizations has obtained a larger development. As a newforce in the field of public administration, they play a more significant role in meetingpeople’s pluralistic social needs and promoting social development. However, due tovarious causes, the development of Chinese associations still faces many problems,which have greatly hindered the development of social organizations. In the globalcontext of the rise of governance theory, how should government implementmanagement for associations, how to find a balance between country management andassociations development, and how should associations themselves change and reform,naturally becomes an important issue need to be studied in public administration fieldin China.This thesis focuses on studying the development of chinese social organizationsfrom the perspective of governance theory. On the basis of sorting out the status ofcurrent studies on associations both at home and abroad, analyzing related concepts ofassociations and related theories of their development: governance theory, publicchoice theory, and the third sector theory, the author points out the value ofgovernance theory to associations development, as well as the need of strengtheningthe study of associations. Through summarizing of the devlopment stages of ourassociations, the author puts forward major problems our associations currently faced,such as inadequate funding, a weak foundation, internal management deficiencies,fuzzy relationship between government and associations, and imperfect law systems,and also analyzing the causes from aspects of history, notions, system, and economy.Finally, with an aim to enhance the healthy development of our associations, toimprove social governance and to promote the overall social advance, on the basis ofsummarizing the experiences on development of associations abroad, the thesis putsforward some suggestions: to arrange the relationship between government andassociations, to build and improve legal and management systems that good for thedevlepment, to promote associations’ diversity, to improve associations’ own construction and to strengthen social supervision over associations.
