This paper makes a detailed description of the Soviet religious policy, its early historical background, contents and analyses the relations between church and state during this period and then evaluates its social and historical impacts on Soviet Union, with reference to the large amounts of data, based on the guidance of Marxist materialism.This paper consists of four chapters.Chapter one:the historical background of religious policy in Soviet Union. This section describes the status of the Orthodox Church before the October Revolution, outlining their course of development as a national church, and introducing the social background in which Soviet Union was established.Chapter two:the religious policy of the early Soviet Union. This section describes the religious policy of the early Soviet Union, mainly from which the government had confiscated church property and land, deprived of the power of the Church secular, made an anti-religious propaganda and non-religious education so on, carrying out a systematic introduction in the said four areas, and the author describes further Lenin’s guidance to the religious policy through his religious theory.Chapter three:Early Soviet church-state relations. This part revolves around the two major events (Shuya Incident, Tikhon Case), a conflict between the Orthodox Church and state, analyzes the conflict and compromise between government and the Orthodox Church, from which the result is a church division, and their relationship develops into a compromise from confrontation.Chapter four:the evaluation of the religious policy in the early Soviet Union and church-state Relation. The author attempts to make some assessment of the major religious policies, of church-state relations during this early Soviet period, and finally draws the conclusion from the Soviet religious policy, of the historical experience and lessons that we should summarize.There are about36000words in this paper in all.
