Research On Chriminal Education History In New China

In China, in order to achieve the aim of penalty,the criminal education means the prison authorities conduct some mandatory, plastic, organized, and planned system influence activities in moral, cultural knowledge, professional technology and social life during executing criminal punishments according to law. Theoretically, the criminal education can be divided into general education and special education. Generally, it refer to all work and studies that the criminals engaged in the prison consciously and unconsciously, which all contain the education value; Narrowly, it means the ideological, cultural, and skill education to the regulatory criminals, which is a special education and different from the common one. In this paper, the new China Criminal Education has been divided into four periods. First, the early stage for establishment of new China (1949-1956); Secondly,the socialist revolution and construction period (1956-1966);Again,the Cultural Revolution Period(1966-1976),as its particularity, the author analyses the criminal education and the social background in accordance with certain extreme cases, from which the experience, lessons and warnings are concluded; Finally, the period of social transition(1978-2008). During each period, the historical background, policies and laws are summarized and reviewed. Finally, the author makes conclusions to the achievement of the New China Criminal Education, also analyses the criminal education in the harmonious society and presents new opinions. From the historical perspective, the author makes a deep research on the occurrence, development and change of the criminal education, makes a full review to the new China criminal education history, a comprehensive summary to the gain and loss of the criminal education work, for the purpose of expectation to development of the prison service in the future.
