On Community Correction In China

Community corrections, a means of punishing criminals by using community recourses and without falling the criminals apart from the society, is the sum of the management and educate criminals within the surrounding of community. In another word, community correction is to let the criminals which fit in with the law conditions accept punishment in the community. There are several types of community corrections, such as respite, conditional release, community service, work release, study release, release for purse, halfway house and so on. As for China, Community corrections means putting the criminals who fits the condition of community correction in the community, with the help of State organs, volunteers and other organizations, within the deadline of judgment, correct the bad habit of the criminal and let them back to society smoothly when they come out.The condition of a country’s community corrections reflects its culture level and Legal construction. Carrying out community corrections in China, will have a great sense on correcting the criminal’s behavior, psychology and bad habit, in order to let them conform the society smoothly.However, a lot of work needed to be done before stepping into community corrections in China, beyond searching the innovation of our Punishment system and the development of theory, absorbing and learning the successful experiment abroad, and put them into use through the development is also necessary.Though this paper, the concept of the Community corrections in China will be confirmed. Combine with the situation of our community corrections, such as the problems we have, the things we need to do, and try to analysis the value of this system we have in China. Base on these, use the way of analysis and comparison, facing the facts of Operation mechanism, workers, Correction objects, Legislative proposals, and Source of funding to discuss how to build the community corrections system in China.
