Under The Perspective Of Modernity Of Survival Risk

Risk Survival in the horizon of modernity is a profound theme in our time. Withthe development of industrial civilization and the deepening of globalization, themodernity and the risk society has gradually become catchphrases in the20th century.The risk society is the direct consequence of modernity. The reflection on modernityis conducive to our understanding of the conditions of human risk survival. The riskevasion, absorption of the positive results of modernity and reducing or avoiding itsnegative influence, become the value pursuits in the new era, which can be thereforerendered conducive to the construction of a harmonious society. This thesis is dividedinto the following three parts:The first part mainly elaborates on modernity and the formation of its risksurvival and analyzes the concept of survival risk in detail, then explicate howmodernity has induced risk survival. Modernity, as a complicated issue in our time, isassociated with the Enlightenment, rationalism being its essential feature. Risksurvival, directly generated by modernity, is our present existential condition. Withthe progression of social and industrial civilization, the problems of modernitygradually emerge, heralding the advent of risk society.The second part mainly elaborates on the circumstances of risk survival revealedin the modern society. This part treats the cultural risk and institutional risk from twoaspects. The modern society has seen increasing progress and material prosperity,however, man’s alienation has worsened. Marx and Western Marxism have made aprofound cultural critique on modernity. Meanwhile, with the development of themarket economy, the institutional risks also emerge. The analysis of cultural risk andinstitutional risk facilitate the understanding of the present human condition andevade the social risks.The third part mainly elaborates on the persuit of risk survival in the constructionof modernity. This part treats the conditions of survival risk from the three dimensions:first, human activity should be moderate; second the subjectivity of man should bere-established; finally, we should strive to construct a harmonious society, therebyenabling mankind to realize free and comprehensive development by means of freeand self-conscious practice.
