In The Late Qing Qu Xu Shanchang Research

Xu Shanchang (1823-1891) who was called Ji Ren lived in Zhejiang Renhe.He born in a family of officials and good at writing in the juvenile period.He worked Beijing in the early time of his life, and then worked in Jiangxi Province in the middle-ages. He spent a lifetime working for the government of the Qing Dynasty.His works include" Bi Sheng Yin Museum Anthology","Bi Sheng Yin Museum Sequel "," Bi Sheng Yin Museum Notes",operas like " Yi Yun Yan","Feng Yun Hui"," Fu Ling Xian"," Yan Zhi Yu"," Shen Shan Yin"and the short dramas series like "Ling Wa Shi." This paper on the basis of previous studies performs the key research on Xu’s family, life and the creativity of his opera. This paper consists of four chapters.The first chapter mainly focuses on Xu Shanchang’s family and life situation. About this part, the predecessor’s research is not sufficient. There is no conclusion on his birth year. In this chapter, I will try my best to inference the exact time of Xu’s birth year, excavate the activities of Xu’s grandparents, parents, children and other family members, introduce Xu’s mine life experience on stages according to the genealogical records and other documents.Then speculate the influence these people and activities on him.The second chapter mainly focuses on Xu’s social activities, performs the key research on Xu Shanchang’s writing and drama theory. In this chapter, my research is divided in two parts. Firstly, I will investigate the opera activities about Xu Shanchang and his friends like Lu Jusheng, Zheng Youxi, Zhang Xingren, Zhao Zhiqian and other officials or scholars. Secondly, I will perform the key research on the Xu’s poetries and dramas, summed up the drama theory, then analysis of the link between the drama theories.The third chapter and the fourth chapter, mainly focus on the ideological tendency and the artistic characteristics about Xu’s opera. From the opera text, combined with the messages about his family, life, friends etc., summarizes the troubled times voice, life sigh and progressive view of women which is Xu’s opera expressed.Then explore the artistic value about the plot, characters setting, language style in Xu’s opera.I hope to find out a suitable position in the history of drama for Xu Shanchang,I also hope that all the people can really recognize this person who always pursuits truth innovation, witty and affectionate.
