The paintings of an Australian artist Aifred Kubin were provided with the color of mysterious fear along with depressive and pessimistic plot. His paintings were rooted in the psychological shadow in the process of growing up when he was young. Leading a dream-like life. Kubin’s only hope was painting. The distinctive works of Max Klinger, Odilon Redon and Edvard Munch had a profound impact on Kubin’s artistic pursuit and innovation. Through a combination of elaborate painting skills and reckless imagination, Kubin brought the striking scenes on the other end into lives with the absurd approach. On one hand, he adopted innovative and incisive realism. On the other hand, he also uses completely surreal symbolic marks for objects. The artistic works throughout Kubin’s life is focused on the experience in his youth. He found a stronger magic power among general lives. The dream world he explored sets up a mirror for modern anxiety and nervousness and it’s the clearness of the darkest nightmare. The features of character in Kubin’s strange painting lie in the fact that it tries to describe extrasensory things and create symbols for mystical force. He uses a kind of masochistic love to explore the twisted dark side of life. Therefore, his works are born with the strongest pessimism, which exposes his fear on the world and life. In addition, he deepens the fear by expressive techniques he learned from the dream world.Kubin’s electrifying description on anxiety and sexual obsession exposes his successful innovation and exploration on sub-consciousness in the area of arts. It exhibits an artists’image, which is brand-new and strong in creation. The expression of art cannot just be a mechanical imitation of nature. It must be expressed in this way:with a unique observing perspective, the artists apply various artistic skills to create new graphic language. In order to seek out the new creation freedom, painters try to adopt various painting materials and approaches, with the purpose to explore and exhibit the in-depth potentials of arts within their own hearts.Absurdity and artistic fantasy is a creation approach, in which artists are not satisfied with copying the original forms of reality, instead they fabricate images in light of their needs. The absurd technique of expression creates a kind of novel and profound artistic form, composing a specific but vague situation between reality and abstraction. It’s rooted in life, but usually it’s also an exaggerated description of life, which finally achieves a kind of sublimation.
