Buddhist idioms were originating from the combination of the Buddhist language and the Chinese language with the Buddhism’s importation from India, which was becoming a very important composition of the modern Chinese idioms gradually. In this thesis, we choose the Buddhist idioms as the investigation target, and analyze the Buddhist idioms’ types and characteristics in grammatical, pronouncing, semantic and cultural categories. There are four chapters in this thesis:firstly, the formation ways and structure types of the Buddhist idioms; secondly, the cultural types of the Buddhist idioms; thirdly, the scansion of the Buddhist idioms; fourthly, the semantic deviation of the Buddhist idioms. From deep analysis, we can know that the Buddhist idioms have all the structure types of the Chinese idioms with multiple characteristics. And the coordinative compound words are the most important part of the Buddhist idioms with a symmetrical character in structure and semantics. From the view of the cultural type, the Buddhist idioms reveal every aspect of the ancient Indian society, which have been influenced Chinese language and Chinese traditional culture greatly; from the view of the semantic deviation, the semantic deviation of the Buddhist idioms is an important part of the development of the Chinese idioms. In this thesis, we have investigated and discussed the types of the Buddhist idioms’semantic deviation from the conceptual meaning and emotional coloring respectively, and we have also tried to reveal the generating reasons of the semantic deviation from different perspectives, from the view of the scansion, the Buddhist idioms have a vividly symmetrical character, such as voice rhythm with a rule of the level and oblique tones and with the rhythmic rule, which demonstrates a very good harmonious symmetrical character and vivid law of the distribution of the opening and closing words.
