Abstract/Summary:
The picturization is one of the developing trends in Chinese TV play, which shoots the TV play with the mode of film-making in order to improving the quality of TV plays. Director Li Shaohong is an outstanding representative in adopting the techniques applied in films to Chinese TV play. The picturization in TV plays demonstrates a unique audio-visual language and narrative style compares to general TV plays. Not only from the selection of the script but also from the image production and portrait of characters. This article aims at picturing the process of the picturization of Chinese TV plays, and exploring its background, development course, and both success and failure through analyzing director Li Shaohong’s three representative TV plays:"Palace of Desire","The Orange Are Red","A Dream in Red Mansions" so as to highlight Li’s style. The study demonstrates that the exploration in the picturization in TV plays conflicts with the ontology of TV plays, so it only can promote the development of TV plays at a particular time and a certain degree, but essentially speaking, it’s not the developing direction of TV plays.
