The thesis does a study on the Chinese and Korean antonymous compound words of locality. In this study, the formation and meaning distribution of the Chinese and Korean antonymous compound words of locality are investigated. Similarity and differences on the meaning as well as syntactic distribution of the antonymous compound words of locality are analyzed. The two single words of locality that make up the antonymous compound word of locality are on an equal footing, but the order of them is restricted by phoneme, meaning and social culture. As far as the meaning of an antonymous compound word of locality is concerned, it can refer to the both meanings of the two single words of locality at the same time; and when influenced by the linguistic economical principle during lexicalization it can also express the meaning of either word of locality, even a total derived meaning. Generally, there are spatial meaning, temporal meaning, estimating meaning and other meanings in the antonymous compound words of locality in modern Chinese and modern Korean.A conclusion can be drawn from the comparison that the meaning of the antonymous compound words of locality in modern Chinese is richer than that in modern Korean. In addition, when referring to some specific meaning, such as temporal meaning and estimating meaning, the choices of the antonymous compound word of locality in Chinese and Korean are not corresponding. Furthermore, the combination of the Chinese antonymous compound word of locality with other components in a sentence is more flexible and varied than that of the Korean antonymous compound word of locality.
