The Perspective Of Health Communication Present Issues Of Mass Media Reported Autism

Autism, the face coming into view as health topic in recent years, and gradually draw the attention of mass media. The international community has recognized the increasingly high incidence of autism is not only a disease, And a highlight of today’s social problems around the world. This thesis is under the vision of health communication, based on practical news research, investigating autism coverages presented on the mass media in order to fill the autism coverages research vacancy in health communication.In the interests of verifying the research hypotheses that autism coverages have become from a simple personal health issues to a public health issues, this thesis takes all of autism coverages of "Xinmin Evening News" from1995to2010as research object. For the sake of research,15years are dividing into four period,"infancy","early beginning","cognitive", and "cognitive period transition to the humanity".And this thesis introduce the frame theory for textual analysis, summed up the six media frame, namely medical frame, the plight frame, assistance frame, the narrative frame, cultural frame and accountability frame. Then by investigating the autism coverages from the macro, meso and micro levels to show the history and current status of autism.On this basis, this study suggests that currently the "Xinmin Evening News" as the representative of the mass media coverage of autism is at the cognitive period transition to the humanity period. A truly independent medical frame is not obvious. People are concerning about autistic child’s diagnosis, rehabilitation, education, relief, social security and public issues of adult life, the subject area of health communication has been greatly expanded. At last, from the practical point of view, this thesis made recommendations of a certain reference seeking to promote the realization of the mass media in order to raise the level of health communication function.
