Three Yuan Xiaopin Public Security Research

Gong’an Brothers, Yuan Zongdao, Yuan Hongdao, and Yuan Zhongdao, are the significant representatives of Gong’an School which is one of the most important literary schools in the late Ming Dynasty."Xingling theory", proposed by them, brings critical contribution to Chinese Ancient Literary Theory. Furthermore, according to this theoretical basis, their works can be characterized with "the voicing of personality and disregarding forms", and correct the previous trend of restoring ancient ways, creating a novel atmosphere for the contemporary literary world and leading to the development and flourish of Vignettes in the late Ming Dynasty. This essay will center the vignettes of the Three Yuans and explain detailedly in five parts:In introduction, it will give an overview on the present research and value of Gong’an Brothers’ literature, and point the key researching methods and emphasis of this paper.In the first chapter, it will offer a brief description of the social and cultural background and creation situation of Gong’an Brothers’ vignettes. More precisely, it will illustrate their background in terms of politics, economics, philosophy, literature and psychology of the late Ming Dynasty, and discuss their impact on the creation, number and category of Gong’an Brothers’ vignettes.In the second chapter, through the analysis of their personal experiences, this essay will explore individual change in thinking. Although Yuan Brothers lived in the same family, they possessed completely different lives, which plays an vital part in the changing of their thought. Only by familiarizing with their own change, can researchers grasp their theory and creation on literature, and pave the way to the further research on the overall study and classification of Yuan Brothers’ works.The third and fourth chapters are the focus of this essay. The third chapter will discuss their themes of Yuan Brothers’ vignettes, and display their sharing essence of "Xingling Theory" and diverse perspectives on literature through combing their individualized works. The fourth chapter will classify and compare their specific literary creation in aspects of travels, letters, biographies, prefaces, and so on. This part will adopt the method of comparison:on one hand, to regard their works as a whole; on the other hand, to give comparison and contrast to them. It will explore their diverse features of them under the same literary brand.In the fifth chapter, it will demonstrate the value and destiny of Yuan Brothers’ vignettes, which has a very high aesthetic and literary value, but whose destiny is not smooth, full of adoration, abuse misunderstanding and dispute. It has theoretical and practical significance to understand these.
