Yu Hua is one of the eminent novelists in contemporary China. Several avant-gardenovels written in the mid and late1980s contributed to his status in field of theChinese literature, besides, the three full-length novels written after1990s alsoattracted great attention. While from1988till now, the research of Yu Hua focuses onthree main areas: the avant-garde novels written between1986and1989; thefull-length novels written in the1990s and the creation transition between these twocreation periods. The early creation period of Yu Hua’s novels (1983-1986) as well asthe creation transition happened between the first two creation periods was ignored byresearchers. Based on the recognition of the research value of Yu Hua’s early creation,and aimed at filling the vacancy of research of Yu Hua’s novels, this thesis mainlydiscusses the early creation of Yu Hua’s novels and the phenomenon of the firstcreation transition, summarizes the features and styles of Yu Hua’s early novels,indicates the value of Yu Hua’s early creation in his creation course, analyzes theshortcomings of the early writing, and elaborates from several aspects, the variouscauses of first creation transition of Yu Hua’s novels.
