The Yi people is an ancient one with a long cultural history and embroidery has an extremely important role in Yi dress. Because of the huge branch range of the Yi tribes in Chuxiong there are obvious differences in the dwelling environment, means of livelihood, historical contrail, cultural traditions and customs. As a result, each branch shows its different characteristics in clothing styles, patterns and color selection of the costumes. Embroidery skills of the Lipo group, a tribe which distributes in northern region of the Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Chuxiong, Yunnan, is part of the Yi intangible cultural heritage. Through this cultural tip, the deep psychological state which contains of the national identity, culture identity and so on can be well interpreted. This article focuses on the unique embroidery skills’generated environment, natural environment, and the economic life, history environment and human environment of the Lipo group, which is a branch belong to the Yi people in Chuxiong Besides, the investigation on the embroidery skills’heritage, changes and development are also well discussed, What’s more, there is also a thorough discussion about the heritage and development of the unique characteristics in embroidery skills and techniques. Embroidery plays an important role in the life of Lipo group, and it still keeps the fresh vitality and shows a live state up to now. This significantly contributes to its regional characteristics among the Yi Culture "similarity".
