This thesis examines the context and characteristics of the Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting ("Shuimo") in association with the cultural transition of modern life, as well as the traditional Chinese ink painting. By pursuing the origin of the Contemporary Shuimo, identifying the relationship between theory and practice of the Contemporary Shuimo, it realizes the break-away from the Traditional Shuimo and the formation of new contemporary arts. Contemporary Shuimo, when compared to the traditional Shuimo, has much more abundant artistic capacities in various aspects, in addition to its intrinsic conjunction with modern life. In the mean time, it acknowledges the peculiar predicament of the Contemporary Shuimo nowadays and reveals new opportunities for its development. |
