Objectives:Adopt Meta-analysis method to comprehensively analyze the efficacy of treating the hepatic encephalopathy with Integrated Chinese-western-medicine.Methods:Prepare corresponding retrieval strategy according to the systematical evlautaion method specified in Cohrane Collaboration. Retrieve Randomized Controlled Trial RCT regarding the hepatic encephalopathy with combined traditional Chinese and western medicine publically published at home and abroad from2000-2010. The databases retrieved include CMB, WF, VIP and CNKI, and the manual retrieval is adopted as well. For references meeting the requirements, information including the total effective rates, asterixis, blood ammonia and mental status are extracted. Meta analysis is then carried out to the information extracted by using RevMan4.2Software provided by International Evidence-based Medicine Collaboration Website (www.cochrane.org).Results:Totally33pieces of literature (2740patients) meet the inclusion standard, therein,17pieces take the total effective rates as the reported outcome and analyze the advantages of treating the disease with Integrated Chinese-western-medicine by comparing the outcomes with those of treating the disease with pure western medicine, and the differences are of statistical significance. The result demonstrates that treating the disease with Integrated Chinese-western-medicine can obviously improve the total effective rates.19pieces take the blood ammonia level after the treatment as the reported outcome and compare the advantages of the method of Integrated。 Chinese-western-medicine in reducing the patient’s blood ammonia, the differences of which are of statistical significance. The result demonstrates that treating the disease withlntegrated.Chinese-western-medicine can effectively reduce the patient’s blood ammonia level. There are totally28pieces take the improvement of the patent’s mental status as the reported outcome, therein,16pieces take the asterixis as the reported outcome and the differences are of statistical significance.12pieces take the patient’s mental status as the reported outcome and the differences are of statistical significance. The result demonstrates that treating the disease with Integrated Chinese-western-medicine has better efficacy in improving the clinical symptoms and the physical condition compared with pure western medicine. No result reverse is found in sensitivity analysis, which indicates that the stability of this research is good. Conclusions:Compared to the efficacy of western medicine only, the efficacy of combined traditional Chinese and western medicine is much better. However, due to the quality of literature included is generally low, papers with high quality are needed to obtain more reliable evidences.
