Corydalis yanhusuo W. T. Wang., distributed traditionally mainly in southe-astern China, and now cultivated also in northwestern China and other district, is a famous Chinese medicinal plant of the family Papaveraceae. It has been widely used to promote blood circulation, reinforce vital energy and alleviate pain such as headache, chestpain and abdominal pain. The major active components of C. yanhusuo are alkaloids, especially the protoberberine alkaloids. As part of our on-going study on the chemistry of Chinese medicinal plants, the tubers of C.yanhu-suo was subjected to detailed studies of chemical constituents. At the same time, This thesis also conducted the research of the Control Substance for a Plant Drug (CSPD) and the preliminary screening of pharmacological activities of the constit-uents isolated from C. yanhusuo. In this paper, thirty two compounds were obtained from90%alcohol extract of the tubers of C. yanhusuo, and their structures were determined unambiguously by chemical and spectroscopic methods as corydaline (1), tetrahydrocoptisine (2), tetrahydropalmatine (3), tetrahydrocolumbamine (4), corybulbine (5), nordelporph-ine (6), tetrahydrojatrorrhizine (7), dehydrocorydaline (8), dehydroglaucine (9),8-oxocoptisine (10), protopine (11), coryphenanthrine (12),13-methyl-palmatrubine (13), tetrahydrocorysamine (14),13-methyl-dehydrocorydalmine (15), glaucine (16), pontevedrine (17), scoulerine (18), palmatine (19), oxoglaucine (20), jatrorrhi-zine (21), taxilamine (22),N-methyllaurotetanine (23), yuanhunine (24), coryday-anine (25), yanhusuine (26), dehydrocorybulbine (27), berberine (28),β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (29), behenic acid (30), xanthosine (31) and phenylala-nine (32). Of which, compounds25and26were new compounds and compounds6,7,22,31and32were isolated from Corydalis yanhusuo for the first time. Compounds11,17and20displayed moderate inhibitory activity against human tumor cells, compounds2,8and16were found probably have the activity to descrease the concentration of triglyceride. In this thesis, the1H NMR spectra of fractionated extracts (control substance for a plant drug, i.e. CSPD, including CSPD A and B) of C. yanhusuo from sev-en different sources were recorded and analyzed. The spectra of the same fractio-nated extracts were found to be consistent among themselves irrespective of sour-ces where the subjects were collected. These spectra revealed significant common features among the samples, all of them exhibiting significant similarity and show-ing the characteristic signals of their major constituents in common. However, th- ere were differences in the relative intensity of signals in these fingerprints which could be attributed to the differences in the relative compositon of main constitu-ents. And these features were further confirmed by the procedure of HPLC analy-sis. The combined features of1H NMR fingerprint and HPLC trace exhibited spe-cific data from those special compounds and can be used for the authentication of C. yanhusuo origins.
