Objective:The occurrence of senile cataract is related to age, gender, ultraviolet radiation, poor diet, drug abuse and genetic factors. Various antioxidant nutrients that maintain normal physiological and biochemical processes are essential in the eyes. The relationship between antioxidant nutrients and cataract-depth understanding of the role of antioxidant nutrients in the pathology of the eye has a influence on the mechanism of the occurrence and development of cataracts. The objective of this experiment is to study the impact of antioxidant nutrients on the development of the initial period of senile cataract which can increase the content of antioxidant nutrients in patients, prevent cataracts and reduce or delay visual impairment.Method:1、60patients who have been diagnosed with early stage senile cataract(age:60-70years old) in Shanxi rehabilitation research center from October2010to February2011, identified with the correction vision between0.5~0.7and eliminated all sorts of ocular and systemic associated diseases, were randomly divided into two groups:group A (the experimental group, male14,female16) and group B (the control group, male14,female16).2、After inspecting serum superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde (MDA), the determination of serum Se content and visual inspection, group B was given antioxidant nutrition drugs:Glutathione eye drops and the musk beads Eye Drops interval often minutes, alternating eye, oral vitamin C, vitamin E and astragalus root; group A was given placebo new tears natural eye drops. After a period of12months of clinical observation, we detect the above indicators again in order to investigate the role of antioxidant nutrients on the preventive and therapeutic effects on the occurrence and development of senile cataract.Results:1、After treatment with a variety of anti-oxidation, serum T-SOD, GSH-Px and Se contents in group A rose higher than before treatment and were higher than that in group B obviously. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(t=-2.456,-2.477,-5.559;p<0.05), while MDA content significantly increased. By t test (t=-3.807,7.958;P<0.05),significant difference. This suggested that anti-oxidation improved the vitality of antioxidant enzymes in the body and reduced the degree of body and cell damage by lipid peroxidation. 2、After antioxidant nutrients treatment, there was little change in visiomin group A which is no statistically significant difference(t=-1.728, p>0.05),while visual acuity in group B decreased significantly which had significant difference in two group and was statistically significant(t=-9.870,p<0.05).This indicated that antioxidant nutrients controled effectively the decline in visual acuity and the development of senile cataract.3、After12months, comparing with before treatment, serum T-SOD, GSH-Px and Se contents in group B decreased significantly. This difference was statistically significant (t=4.138,10.405,2.312,p<0.05). Serum MDA contents increased significantly which compared with before treatment and the difference was statistically significant (t=-2.499,p<0.05);while comparing with before treatment visual acuity decreased significantly(t=-9.870,p<0.05),and the difference was statistically significant. That antioxidant enzyme system of the body activity decreased which caused injury by peroxide, increased lipid peroxides and led to the decline of visual acuity. It’s the major reason in the development of senile cataract. Conclusion:This test confirmed that the body antioxidant enzyme system activity decreased which caused the body and cell damage by peroxide, increased lipid peroxides and led to the decline of visual acuity. It’s the major reason in the development of senile cataract. By increasing the antioxidant nutrients we can improve the vitality of the antioxidant enzymes. The early use of the senile cataract eye drops containing antioxidant nutrients and appropriate combined with oral doses of vitamin C, E and selenium and so on. We promote good nutrition in the elderly, and vigorously promote the dietary Guidelines which can master knowledge of nutrition in the elderly, the guidance of older people eat foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene and Zn, Se antioxidant the nutrients in food. It’s a prevention of important measures of senile cataract.
