There is a direct or indirect linkage in terms of the basic perfromance between vehicle and engine, therefore, with more and more strictly economic and emission regulations published, as a basic test platform, engine bench is of great significance in improving the small engine performance, of which the technique is unadvanced nowadays. And along with the rapid development of computer and microelectronics technology, especially the technology of virtual instrument is widely used in related fields, the level of automated monitoring and control in the system of engine test bench has been greatly improved, leading to high efficiency and accuracy.Firstly, according to the structural principle of the engine test bench system, the article described the general layout of the system, and then designed the goal of the monitoring and control system.Secondly, based on the goal, the article completed the hardware selection, including computer, data acquisition card, dynamometer, sersor and so on, and circuit design. While on the software side, the article developed a set of software to study the small engine performance, using the software to calibrate the measurement system of torque, analyze and process the data after the test, and designed six control mode in parallel,to control the position of the dynamometer and the engine throttle, output speed and torque of the engine. The article also applied the function of dynamic link library provided by the virtual instrument development software LabVIEW, to solve the compatibility issues with domestic data acquision card.Finally, built the entire system of engine test bench, and choosed an appropriate control mode to complete the characteristics of the engine test which could be used to analyze the engine performance.
