In the conventional launching principle, the excessive peak of the chamber pressure was not only detrimental to the launcher but also to the projectile design. With the increase in caliber, the traditional ammunition loading technology couldn’t solve the problem of the high chamber pressure and strong recoil. From the requirements of the projectile design and weapon maneuverability, the lower chamber pressure was expected. However, the lower pressure would result in the difficult in charge ignition. The high-low pressure launching principle was an effective technique routine to solve these contradictions.In this thesis, a research has been made on the working mechanism of the interior and exterior ballistics of a high-low pressure grenade launcher. The numerical calculation models of the interior and exterior ballistics were studied and the effects of related parameters on the ballistics performance were analyzed. The concrete work could be described as follows:(1) Based on high-low pressure launching principle and two-phase flow theory the interior ballistics equations were established and the numerical simulations with the MacCormack difference scheme were conducted. The comparative analysis of the present results with the measured results in literature showed that the established model and the algorithm were reliable. By numerical simulations, the influence rules of the orifice dimensions and the charge amount upon the interior ballistics performances of grenade launcher were studied.(2) Based on the classic exterior ballistics theory, the exterior ballistics model of the projectile was established after exiting from the muzzle of grenade launcher. The numerical calculations and analyses of this simplified exterior ballistics model were conducted by Runge-Kutta method with the fourth order accuracy and the corresponding program of Visual Basic code was completed at the same time. The feature sets and operating results of this program met the need of external ballistics analysis of the influencing factors.(3) The dedicated ballistics software for high-low pressure grenade launchers was developed. And the problem of hybrid programming of Visual Basic and Fortran was solved with the modular design idea.
