In this paper, case retrieval technology is applied in parts processing technology. To design a new process plan of the part, the system will search the closest process of the instance part which stored in case library according to the information matching between the new part and the instance part. On this basis, process plan of current instance part meet the need by revising it. This technique accords with the people’s habits of thought, which solves the design process knowledge acquisition" bottleneck" problem and handles new problems quickly and accurately. Thus, it improves the quality and efficiency of design greatly.Aimed to the revolving parts process design, the CAPP system is studied based on case retrieval. Firstly, combined with the case retrieval in the requirements of process design, the paper analysis the processing characteristics of the revolving parts and studies information expression form of cases. In order to enhance the efficiency of process design, a manufacturing process feature information model based on feature description is established. Secondly, considering the effect of the machining quality and efficiency factors, the manufacturing resource library of CAPP system is built, including:machine database, tool database and cutting parameters database. According to library organization form and the OPTIZ system, the "type layer" index method is put forward, type layer coding system is set up, a search method for similar parts and a similar process adaptability modification method are given. Finally, the CAPP system for revolving body parts is realized based on the UG flatform by using of Visual C++.
