With the increase of investment in infrastructure in recent years, more and more modern construction machinery are utilized which result in the growing proportion of energy consumption of the total national energy consumption. The way to convert heat to mechanical energy efficiently has always been the critical issue in modern mechanical engineering. The three-cylinder internal combustion water power system is a new type of power equipment which integrated the structure and technical characteristics of the engine and piston pump. The previous research had been focused on the simulation of the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system, while the work of test of a prototype is still not available. In this paper, we investigated the dynamics and economic indicators of the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system based on a prototype developed by our group and made a comparative analysis with the traditional internal combustion engine piston pump system which will provide reference data for application and promotion of the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system.The output flow, output pressure and the effective power output were selected as the dynamics indicators of the system and the fuel consumption rate, the effective thermal efficiency as the economic indicators. The test results showed that the dynamics and economics indictators of the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system were significantly improved compared with the conventional internal combustion engine piston pump system. The flow distribution system volumetric efficiency is significantly reduced when the system crankshaft rotational speed was1500r/min which resulted in the overall deterioration of performance of the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system.Changes of the volumetric efficiency made great impact on the machine’s dynamics and economic indicators. According on the operating characteristics of the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system, we propoted a data acquisition program which appropriated for the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system, and thus the in-situ data acquisition and real-time display and the monitor of operating parameters of the three-cylinder internal combustion water power system were achieved. The data acquisition unit circuit board and the related software were also developed.
