Internal Combustion Engine,or ICE, is one kind of thermal and dynamicalmachines, and is also one kind of important machines in industrial and agriculturalproduction. With the continual development of science and technology, ICE's strengthand performance target are being arisen increasingly, and this means engine does bearhigher thermal load. Higher thermal load affects engine's structure reliabilityadversely and shortens engine's longevity severely. To strengthen the performanceand reliability of engine, in the thesis, CFD, Computational Fluid Dynamics, is beingusen to reseach the cooling water jacket in single cylinder head of engine.In this research, deep research is done in cooling water jacket and someoptimized design methods is to be brought forward to improve cooling of cylinderhead. The research is based on the analysis and setting up of 3D model of coolingwater jacket in the separate cylinder head and is done by the ways of theoreticanalysis, numerical computation as well as visualization study.Some 2D drawings of one new kind of No.150th series of engines are referred toin this research .Some 3D models of the 3D water jacket are set up, where coolingwater flows in the cylinder head, by Pro/Engineer, one important kind of 3D CADsoftware. Then the models are checked and meshed by another kind of softwarenamed GAMBIT. Subsequently, the flow fields (speed field and temperature field) arecomputed and displayed, and then the results are postprocessed and analyzed all byusing FLUENT, one important kind of CFD software. Because of the complexstructure of water jacket in the cylinder head, it is very difficult and unnecessary to setup a same precisely model for the jacket. Accordingly, simplified 3D models are usedwhich are most analogic to the real water jacket in the engine head. And steadycalculation model are chosen in this research. The cooling water flow in the waterjacket is supposed to be adiabatic and incompressible viscous turbulent flow. Hybridmeshes and second-order scheme are chosen in order to acquire efficient and preciseresults. It is necessary to solve continuity equation , momentum equation ( Navier-Stokes equation ), energy conversation equation , standard k-εturbulence modelequation and wall equation . Some work is also done on the temperature field of thesingle high-powered disel engine cylinder. The cooling water jacket is proveneffective by both the result from the fluid field of cooling water and the result fromthe temperature field of cylinder head.
