Large-caliber weapons igniter was studied in this paper. The preparation method and properties of modified Benite and nitrocellulose (NC) containing metal powder were researched, and intermittent warming up foaming technique using supercritical CO2was adopted to foam igniters to gain high burning rate. The density was measured. The morphology, combustion performance and energy performance were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurement, the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) measurement, the closed vessel test and the calorimetric bomb test. The research indicated that:after foaming by supercritical fluid, the density of the two kinds of igniters decreased; Isolated micro-pore did not appear in modified Benite, micro-pore was observed in the igniter NC containing metal powder, and the size and the number of the pore changed regularly with the changing of the foaming conditions; Both of combustion performance of two kinds of igniters was improved. Compared with Benite and the samples not foamed, the burning time was shortened, the gas releasing rate and the burning rate were substantially increased. For these two kinds of igniters, isochoric heat of explosion increased with increasing component of NC and metal respectively, and the maximum value was2.4%and5.4%higher than Benite respectively. The impetus of two kinds of igniters both increased with increasing component of NC, and was both greater than Benite; Combustion performance and energy performance of two kinds of igniters in the igniting primer were measured with military standard, and the prospects for the application of these two igniters were great.
