Studies About The Mentality And Literature Of Li Dongyang’s Later Stage

Li Dong Yang, a famous writer, lived in the middle of Ming dynasty, with standing literary talent and high political position, who led literary world for many years. He often recommended and helped young scholars and writers, with whom he established a famous literary faction——Chaling School, which made a great contribution to the reform of Taige style’s disadvantages, the development of the Former Seven Men and the promotion of prosperity of literature in the Ming dynasty. Throughout the whole writing career of Li Dongyang, the most controversial for later generations is his later stage. Politically, he was in a dilemma position, although tried to rescue Ming government, hard to be understood by common people. At last he chose to retire and end his political career. Literarily, he faced with the decline of Chaling School, in spite of making great efforts to find a way out, but tried in vain. So, in the later stage, Li Dongyang, either mentally or literarily, has a great particularity. This thesis mainly about the research of the mentality and literature of Li Dongyang’s later stage, making efforts to restore his status and effect in the middle of Ming Dynasty from the microscopic view and to research the evolution of politics and literature of this period.The preface of this thesis consists of two parts. The first part explains the reason for the selected topic and introduces the current research about the status of Li Dongyang and Chaling School in academic circles. The second part is about the research significance and innovation of this thesis.The main part of the article consists of four chapters. The first chapter mainly solves two problems, the first problem is to divide Li Dongyang’s literary career into three periods, early, mid and late period, focusing on the reasons of the late period division; Secondly, combing the literary thought evolution of Li Dongyang based on the literary through in his poetry and his theoretical writings.The second chapter mainly about Li Dongyang making friends with others. Section one gives an overview of his intercourse in later stage, mainly about the intercourse contents and intercourse groups. Section two introduces his intercourse with main members of Chaling School, such as Shao Bao, Gu Qing. Section three is about his intercourse with principle members of the Taige officials, such as Yang Tinghe, Jin Gui. Section four is about his intercourse with the main members of the Former Seven Men, such as Li Mengyang, He Jingming. In order to understand his influence in politics and literature in his later stage.The third chapter mainly studies Li Dongyang’s later stage mentality and its causes. The first section classifies and discusses his later stage mentality, mainly three aspects, political psychology, life attitude and literature mentality. The second section discusses the causes of his later stage mentality, mainly are political environment and literary trend.The fourth chapter is about the literary view and literary creation of Li Dongyang’s later stage. This chapter makes a thorough discussion of his later literary view based on the introduction of his evolution of literary through in chapter1. Then under the guidance of the literary view, it discusses unique ideological content of Li Dongyang’s later creation period.
