Most of the research of morpheme and the practice of Teaching Methodology of Morphemes focus on Synchronic angle. Professor Yang Xiaoli raised "Inherited Morpheme" from a new Diachronic angle in2006. This thesis is based on the concept of "Inherited Morpheme" to research the Inherited Animals and Plants Morpheme.Chapter One, Introduction, briefly introduces the significance, the current researches, the approaches and perspectives, the sources of the materials of this thesis. Considering the feature of the Animals and Plants Morpheme, it seems a practicable way to analyze it from the diachronic angle.Chapter two and chapter three are to investigate and analyze the current situation of the Inherited Animals and Plants Morpheme in modern Chinese word formation. Firstly, defines the scope of the Inherited Animals and Plants Morpheme, analyzes the unique parts. Secondly, divides all of the Inherited Animals and Plants Morpheme into different types of word formation, analyzes the characteristics of word formation from the part of speech, semantic, syllable structure and word formation pattern.Chapter four, compared with "Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus", the thesis observes the circumstances of word formation and analyzes it from the structure and semantic.There are44words used the meaning of the inherited animals morpheme,12words used homonymic morpheme and homograph morpheme. There are39words used the meaning of the inherited plants morpheme,19words used homonymic morpheme and homograph morpheme. Composite word are formed by Compound and Affixation. There are three types of the Semantic circumstance:the meaning of the morpheme is consistent with the word, a part of the meaning of the morpheme is missing or becoming vague, the meaning of the morpheme is absolutely missing.Chapter Five, Application, selects some representative morpheme and homonymic morpheme and homograph morpheme to make instructional design. According to the investigation, the students did well in understanding and memorizing the meanings but still need to learn the word formation.Chapter Six, introduced the circumstances of the animals and plants morpheme in "Chinese new target" and "New Practical Chinese Reader", made two suggestions about the teaching material compilation:first, pay attention on the animals and plants morpheme and the cultural teaching, learn the way of word formation and cultural meaning from the easy to the difficult and complicated, from vernacular to classical Chinese. Second, face the advantages of teaching methodology of morphemes, design practice based on morphemes.Chapter Seven, summarizes the conclusion and points out the insufficiencies of this thesis.
