As a selective and targeted activity, the consumption has become a main life style of modern people. With the fast-growing economic and social development, people’s consumption practices tend to be more diversified, as well as their activities related to all aspects of daily life, which bring the consumption a more obvious social and cultural significance. However, people in current society hold that the value of consumption is equal to the outlook of life, believe the consumption is the fundamental purpose in life and the real value of life, waste more material and have more social wealth as a success in life and happiness symbol label. It is quite common these days for people in many countries maintain the position that "What I buy means who I am", which gradually penetrated into people’s daily life. The prevalent idea reflects there is a misunderstanding in the consumption values of modern people, their consumption demand from satisfying basic needs changed to try to meet the increasing desire of consumption, and their consumption from the attention changed to the use value to pay more attention to the symbolic value of material obsession and possession. These people take part in the endless cycle of consumption, they rely on the consumption at the same time they involved the whole control of the consumption, and even they need the consumption as a representative of themselves. The modern society full of too many unknown and uncertain things and great enriched the material, offering a wide range of selections to distinguish the right direction. The misconceptions of the modern consumption value caused a series of subjectivity effects, which give rise to the people who do not realize themselves or cannot hold themselves even are unwilling to have themselves. It is difficult for these people to get rid of the consumption control, being the common individual under the outside power, and then were completely involved in the consumption control, need to build self-rely on consumption, the body would be consumption control, unwilling to face themselves. The passivity weaknesses of modern people were infinite expanding, becomes mechanical, blind in the consumption activity, while depending on the material gradually lost themselves in ability. In other words, many people always overestimate the distance between reality and self realization, for what the emergent of the misconceptions of the modern consumption value itself have profound reasons. On the one hand, they inevitably suffer the socialization process through a series of complex emotional experiences. When they have to face the flowing-objective world which full of uncertainty, their experiences are not only contain all the fear of the unknown, but also cover the conflicts of multiple selection. On the other hand, they fail to solve the problem of self-loss and the value misplacement, which push them mechanical obedience the social-oriented and obsession with the fleeting pleasure, chasing a false symbol.Consequently, people should face the misconception of modern consumption values, then construct the consumption concept based by themselves. To start with, it requires people to clarify the fuzzy boundary between the needs and the desires, and build ego and learn self-knowledge and self-control, achieving the pursuit of rational existence. What is more, they also need to look at consumption correctly, abandon consumerism, explore ways of consumption reasonable, the pursuit of purpose and creative consumption. In conclusion, they should recognize that consumption is only important activities indispensable to people’s life in one, but not for the sole purpose of life, the pursuit of harmony and unity of subject and consumption, realize the comprehensive and free development of people.
