After David Der-wei Wang constructed Wang Anyi into the successor of EileenChang’s pedigree, many scholars have studied Wang Anyi according to Der-wei Wang’sresearch. However, they have ingnored the writing characteristic of Wang Anyi herself. The thesis starts with Der-wei Wang’s viewpoint about the successor of Eileen Changin Shanghai style writers. Then it makes conclusion that the starting point of Wang Anyiand Eileen Chang is different by comparing their works involving themes such as Shanghai,Female, and Daily Lives. Afterwards, the thesis analysises the writing process andexperiences of Wang Anyi. In this way, it uncovers the changeable writing style of WangAnyi and confirms that she cannot be considered as one of the Shanghai style writers. Infact, the train of thought throughout her works is introspection and critique to nationalculture. On the basis, the thesis keeps going into the reason why Wang Anyi is similar toEileen Chang in their works seriously. They are both influenced by A Dream in RedMansions and western modern writing style. When critics questioned the relationshipbetween Wang Anyi and Eileen Chang, Wang Anyi’s response has always been around,‘Iam not like her’. Wang anyi justified herself from the view of the world, times andemotional range, etc. Her self-contradictory words and deeds reflect on the impact ofanxiety to a certain extent. Wang Anyi’s creation, especially that in1990s, was influencedby Eileen Chang in some ways. But more is still down her own creative trajectory indeepening development. It’s time to break Der-wei Wang’s descendant of myth and restore the true colours of Wang Anyi’s creation. She is Wang Anyi.
