The Research On Yangzhou Lineage In The Ming And Qing Dynasties

In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, because of the favorable geographical condition,Yangzhou region developed in economy and culture. As a kind of social organization basedon blood relationship, the lineage played an important role in the regional socialdevelopment in Yangzhou during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The paper discusses thebasic situation of the lineage research on Yangzhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,including the number, the surname and distribution of the lineage; the first ancestor and thefirst immigratory ancestor, the time and the locations these families moved from, themoved reasons; the ideologies of morals, sacrifice and life. The ideologies not only keptthe traditional lineage thought, but also were affected by the times. Compared with thelineage in Huizhou, the lineage in Yangzhou had its own characteristics in inheritance andactivities during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. At the same time, the lineage constantlydeveloped and deeply impacted culture, welfare and social control in Yangzhou.
