A Study Of The Relationship Among Psychological Capital, Social Support And Life Satisfaction Of The Elderly

Psychological capital (PsyCap) is an important research subject of positivepsychology, it’s an general positive factors of the core psychological factors and compliedwith the psychological state of positive organizational behavior standards. It can betargetedly managed and developed.At present, the psychology capital researches of our country have made some progress,but the PsyCap study of the elderly is less, and lack of Localization studies. Therelationship among PsyCap, social support and life satisfaction of the elderly has not beenconfirmed. This study explores the localization on the PsyCap of the elderly throughqualitative research method, and develops an effective measuring tool–“the elderly’sPsyCap questionnaire”. Then this study uses three kinds of questionnaires in order todiscuss the relationship among psychological capital, social support and life satisfaction ofthe elderly. The main conclusions are as followed:(1) Qualitative research results show that, psychological capital of the elderly includessix aspects: self-realization, honest and steady, diligence and adamancy, open-minded andtolerance, grateful and dedication, optimistic and appreciation.(2) The elderly’s PsyCap questionnaire contains four dimensions: self-efficacy,diligence and adamancy, honest and steady, grateful and dedication. The questionnaire’sreliability and validity meet the psychometric requirements. It can be used as a researchtool.(3) The elderly has a pretty positive view of their PsyCap, social support and lifesatisfaction.(4) Demographic variables have important influences on PsyCap, social support and life satisfaction. There are kinds of differences in gender, education level, whether thespouse alive, children visitation frequency, pension, and health status.(5)Each two of PsyCap, social support and life satisfaction has significant correlation.(6) The objective support, Self-efficacy, grateful and dedication can predict lifesatisfaction significantly.(7) PsyCap of the elderly plays a mediated role between social support and lifesatisfaction.
