Explore Several Issues About Zhang Liang And Analyze The Spread Of His Image In The Later Generations

Zhang Liang, alias Zi Fang, whose father and grandfather was the prime minister of Han state. After the Qin collapsed the Han, Zhang Liang spend all his belongings to find an assassinator to kill the emperor Qin Shi Huang. Since218BC, when the assassination conducted by Zhang Liang and Li Shi in Bo Lang Sha failed, Zhang Liang had exiled to Xia Pi for ten years. In the peasant revolt at the end of Qin dynasty, Zhang Liang as one of the most important counselors assisted Liu Bang to gain the victory of the War between Chu and Han. Then Zhang Liang won the reputation as the meritorious statesman of Han and consolidated the foundation of Han dynasty for the next four-hundred years. So he shared the high reputation as "The Three of Han" with Xiao He and Han Xin. While his complex life experiences and the revenge for Han state caused some controversies on his actions which conducted for assisting Liu Bang. Besides, both Zhang Liang and Zhuge Liang are the representatives of wise men in Chinese history, while the latter one disseminated his images and characteristics as the "’Holy of wisdom" but Zhang Liang was known by fewer people. This phenomenon deserves a more thoughtful consideration.In order to solve the problems mentioned above, I tried to demonstrate the issues from history, psychology and communication aspects. Meanwhile, the dissertation was for the benefit of further research on the historic people.This dissertation contains five parts.First part. Over viewed the former researches, which used the modern scientific methods, since1990to2012and stated the purposes and methods of the dissertation.Second part. I introduced the life history of Zhang Liang chronologically with the historical records like Shi Ji (Historical Records), Han Shu (Book of Han) and Zi Zhi Tong Jian (History as a Mirror), etc. for the later narrative.Third part. Analyze the root causes of why Zhang Liang assassinated the emperor Qin Shi Huang. On the one hand, re-survey the problems concerned to the birth year of Zhang to demonstrate and ensure the individual reasons from psychological aspects. On the other hand, based on the social background that assassinators and wanderers prevailed, I explored the social causes why the assassination was conducted.Fourth part. Taking the upholding the king Cheng of Han state and blocking the feoffing of six states as the breakthrough points, I explored the real target of Zhang’s intelligence, Han state or Han dynasty. Besides, I analyzed the real relationship between Zhang Liang and Liu Bang through the summary of the evaluations in former dynasties.Fifth part. Taking the image dissemination of Zhuge Liang as the model, I explored further about the choice whether kept some particular characteristics of a historic people, by analyzing the successes and failures in dissemination of Zhang Liang’s image. Meanwhile, I summarized the main influential factors which influenced the dissemination for the benefit of the historic figures’image reconstruction in the process of carrying forward the traditional culture.At the end of the dissertation, I stated the internal connections among each part and made a simple conclusion.
