Artistic Study On Feng Zikai’s Binding And Layout

Feng zikai’s contributions to art are in many ways. This thesis focuses on the binding and layout of his books. Feng Zikai’s bookbinding and layout is unique.He pushed transition of the art of bookbinding and layout of China from tradition to modernization.Feng Zikai has his own position in the history of Chinese modern bookbinding and layout.At present, the study of Feng Zikai’s achievement of the art of bookbinding and layout is still on the initial phase. The relevant studying materials and theories are rare. Therefore, the writer want to give the full picture of Feng Zikai’s art of bookbinding and layout. This thesis contains6chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. The introduction present the purpose and significance,current situation,studying method and creative points of this thesis; Chapter two describes the background and cultural situations when the books are published. This part also analyses the polite, economic, ideological, cultural and social publishing environment at that time. Chapter three summarizes the type and contents of Feng zikai’s books’ binding and layouts, and put his designs into teaching materials, journals and literatures. This part also discusses his works on covers, illustrations and decoration respectively. Chapter four focuses on Feng zikai’s works’ artistic designing factors. Feng zikai’s works are influenced by folk art, traditional culture and foreign culture, and come to a unique way to appreciate the beauty. This chapter is mainly discussing the cause of his works’ style. Chapter five focuses on Feng zikai’ style on binding and layout, as well as his art characters. This part conclude the simplicity, activity, poetry, naturalness, full of interests in his beauty style and ties to get the real and complete picture of his artistic design. Chapter six discusses Feng zikai’s designing values. Besides that, this chapter also focuses on his contributions to his times, his personal charming and humanistic feelings.
