An Application Of Fuzzy Expression Strategy In Simultaneous Interpretation

With Fuzzy Expression Strategy as the guiding strategy, and with thesimultaneous interpretation practice on2012State of the Union Address by U.S.President Obama, this paper aims to discuss an application of Fuzzy ExpressionStrategy in simultaneous interpretation and its specific methods so as to explore theway to apply Fuzzy Expression Strategy in the interpreting reality.This paper has four parts. In the first part, there is an introduction andexplanation of2012State of the Union Address by President Obama and the reasonsin choosing it as the practice source. Then in the second part, the author introduces thepractice task, including the pre-interpretation jobs such as selecting of audio materialand guiding theories etc. the duration of interpretation practice, the means and processof controlling the quality, and the supervisor’s evaluation. And the next part is the caseanalysis, with an introduction to and analysis of the guiding theories, including theFuzzy Translation Theory. While at the meantime, the standard and the situations forapplication of the Fuzzy Translation Theory are discussed, and furthermore, it hastaken the practice source as examples to explore the specific application methods inthe practice. The last part is the conclusion, which mainly summarizes the majorfindings in the interpreting practice, with a systematic overview.The author thinks that the following points are the meaningful attempts made inthis paper: first, the findings support the practicality of Fuzzy Expression Strategy ininterpreting reality, and Fuzzy Translation Theory works well for translation and interpretation as well, for it can improve the quality of interpretation as an underlyingsupport; second, the2012State of the Union Address by President Obama is chosenas the interpreting practice source, from which many persuasive examples areselected.The Fuzzy Expression Strategy is a practical interpreting skill, handy forworking interpreters, because they need to respond fast as the speakers will only sayonce, and meanwhile, they have to be able to convey the main ideas of the speakers soas to assure the smoothly running of the interpretation, for which an application of theFuzzy Expression Strategy is absolutely necessary.It is essential to know how to apply the Fuzzy Expression Strategy better in theinterpretation scenes, avoid the over and insufficient interpretation in the process ofthe application of the Fuzzy Expression Strategy, and take control of interpretationquality, which need more scholars to work together for the further studies.Of course, due to the limitation resulted from the objective and subjectivefactors, there are still some problems unaddressed in this paper, which will be coveredby further and future studies.
