| This is a translation project report of Translation as a Profession by DanielGouadec, of which Chapter17Training Translators is the source text. The source textdiscusses the challenges and possible ways of training translators, includes theurgency and significance of scientific training. The author pointed out the courseobjectives and profiles, course components, and a combination of methodology andtheory with hands-on experience and guidance. Analyzing the specialization oftranslators, he indicated that all students should be prepared to specialize by domain,type of material, medium or translation technology as soon as possible, although thechoice of a specialist field will depend on demands and on the circumstances. Inaddition, the author discussed on assessing learning outcomes, students’ type, trainingmethod and location, and course validation. He pointed out tasks and responsibilities,trainer profiles, and a special case in emerging economies. At last, he went furtherabout vocational road and in-house training. The main contents of this report aredivided into four parts: Part One is the translation project description with background,objectives and significance and structure; Part Two is the background of source text,including the author introduction, and main contents and analysis of source text; PartThree is the analysis of translation difficulties, the illustration of translation methodsand skills with practical examples. The methods include specification and abstraction,supplement and omission, passive and active and the translation of idiomatic phrases.Part Four concludes with the lessons, implication and unsolved problems in thetranslation project. |
