On The Friend Relationship In ShiJing

This thesis focuses on the friend relationship of ShiJing. Firstly, I used philology way to find the friend (pengyou)’s original meaning. The word peng was a kind of cup which the Zhou people used it to drink and also was a kind of money which the Zhou people used it to trade. The word you originally meaned helping others with hand, and it layed the foundation of the friend’meaning for the later. Meanwhile, I investigated three relations included friend,brother, King-Subject related to ShiJing, and used inscriptions and history books in that time to restored the poetry context. Reexplaining the King Ji’s you, which was eulogized greatly in ShiJing. In the writing, I chose Jia Le, Yi, Ji Zui as samples and found that the brother tied friend and Monarch-subject under the patriarchal clan system of enfeoffment in Zhou dynasty. In The related poems of ShiJing, The word friend refer to king-subject, and this kind of friend relationship comply with the You Ji as the criteria of behaviors, the king must’hui yu peng you’, he subect should’she yi wei yi’. This kind of friend relationship also radiates to Subject-subject relationship.
