Wang Chuanshan’s Views On Knowing And Doing Research

From the pre-Qin dynasty to modern times, epistemology always to be a most important content that numerous thinkers in the history researched on, and the term knowledge, doing also constantly appeared in the Chinese philosophical history. Just as the specific things were developing and expanding continuously with time passed by, the epistemology in the philosophical history of China tends to be complicated and reasonable by the history up and down. Until the Ming and Qing dynasties depicting "the Six Classics" and the researched on knowing and doing of Wang chuanshan which "break a new path", created a new chapter of development of the knowing and doing view in Chinese philosophical epistemology.The views on knowing and doing of Wang chuanshan was mainly take the thoughts of predecessors as the foundation and did some reasonable transformation on them, critically inherited and developed the thoughts of predecessors to expounded his comprehensive materialism views on knowing and doing, at the same time, it also reflects the distinct features of that epoch, the sentence "the interpretation of the Six Classics let me break a new path of understanding" which goes directly to the feature of Wang chuanshan’s philosophy thoughts.The views on knowing and doing of Wang chuanshan mainly consists of some important propositions and categories, such as "know not first, do not last" and "difference between knowing-doing, doing first knowing later ","do can hold concurrently with know, know can not","know and do must be interdependent, then will be active" and many other dialectical thoughts, these simple proposition reflected the knowing and doing view’s character of Wang chuanshan, he insisted a distinct standpoint in opposing Neo-Confucianism. As the Confucian predecessors Wang shouren, Cheng yi, Zhu xi etc, all had been criticized and discarded positively or laterally by him. In the process of theoretical struggling, he profoundly realized that advocate talk, and doing far from the actual were the bad habit which was one painful lesson that leading Song and Ming dynasty to be ruined. So he tried to call the truth return avoiding vacant, created a practical spirit which emphasized on practical use. If any idea has its limits under the special epoch or other influences, then the views on knowing and doing of Wang chuanshan is one of them. It concluded some immature elements which expressed that he was not completely get rid of the influential of the thoughts of Neo-Confucianism. But we could not deny that he always be a great philosopher standing on the top mountain of the era. The views on knowing and doing have a huge influential both on the theory and practice from that age to the current times. Especially today, under the circumstance of our country’s socialism construction, we should learn the thoughts of Wang Fuzhi, to recognize the problems and deal with them.From the above analysis, this thesis aims to do some research on the knowing and doing aspects of Wang chuanshan’s philosophical theory, tries to dig out the comprehensive and abundant epistemology thoughts of him through his views on knowing and doing, and then choose the reasonable parts as the reference for our country’s socialist construction.
