The Study Of Wang Fuzhi's Theory Of Knowing And Doing

Compared with Western Philosophy,the theory of Knowing and Doing is a unique and important question.This theory is composed of two parts,the theory of Knowing and the theory of Doing,which are different from epistemology and methodology.The two parts are inseparable and complementary to each other.In Chinese traditional philosophy,the philosophers have not only discussed the specific content of the two parts,but also discussed the relationship between the theory of Knowing and Doing.In ancient Confucianism,the fundamental purpose of Knowing and Doing is to solve the problem of how to become a saint.Therefore,the theory of Knowing refers to the moral conscience.The heavenly principles and the natural law involved are moral.What the theory of Knowing focuses on is how do the morality,conscience,and heavenly principles germinate,how to get them and how do they remind people.As for the theory of Doing is actually a question of Practice,culture and justification.And it is related to the theory of Knowing.During the Pre-Qin period,although the explanations of the Knowing and Doing were illustrated differently be all ancient philosophers,they mainly emphasized on Doing.Confucius,Mengzi and Xunzi criticized the phenomenon that one's words are not matched by deeds.The theory of Doing has been snubbed and accepted in Han Dynasty,and finally formed the tradition that the theory of Doing is valued.To Song Dynasty,the discussion of the relationship of Knowing and Doing has become an essential problem among the Neo-Confucianism and Lu-Wang philosophy are all discussed and analyzed this question,but they all have certain drawbacks.In addition,Buddhism and Taoism have some advantages and limitations in the views of Knowing and Doing.Wang Fuzhi's Theory of Knowing and Doing can be said to have completely cleared up the wrong parts inpreviousviews,and made a comprehensive and systematic summary.Chuanshan not only criticizes the views of “After Knowing first” of Cheng-Zhu neo-confucianism,but also criticizes the views of “The unity of Knowing and Doing” of Lu-Wang philosophy.And he also criticizes the views of this question of Buddhism and Taoism.He stated that the Doing should be put forward inorder problem of Knowing and Doing.And he made explicit distinction between Knowing and Doing in order to criticize those who tried to confound Knowing and Doing in theory.He also stressed that the knowledge gained by seeing and hearing and the knowledge of virtue should be paid attention to,to criticize the Taoism do not pay attention to the knowledge gained by seeing and hearing.More importantly,we should criticize Zen's behavior of blindly emphasizing epiphany.Wang Fuzhi's Theory of Knowing and Doing reflects the naive dialectic thought in Chinese traditional philosophy,and initiates the progressive point of view on the question of the relationship between Knowing and Doing.He pioneered the advanced views of“Knowing is different from Doing,first the Doing and after the Knowing”,“Doing leads Knowing,Knowing cannot lead Doing” and “Combination of Knowing and Doing,then making progress”.As an important part of the philosophy of Chuanshan,Wang Fuzhi's Theory of Knowing and Doing is not only a great master of the problem of knowing and doing in the history of Chinese philosophy,but also a profound influence on the development of the idea of knowing and doing in the modern times,and thus promoting the emergence and development of the social movement in modern China.Based on this,this study will discuss the theory and thought of the Knowing and Doing of Chuanshan from the three aspects:The theory of Knowing,the methodology of the theory of Knowing,and the relationship of these two parts.And it will explore the theoretical basis for the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era,and provide the guidance for the great practice of the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
