Since its publication in1997, Harry Potter Series have been translated into more than70languages with a cumulative sale of more than5hundred million copies, which ranks in the list of the best sailing novels. At present, studies on Harry Potter Series mainly focus on three aspects:1) translation strategies that translators apply to convey the plot and character images to the target readers.2) translation quality and standard represented by different versions of Harry Potter Series.3) figuring out problems and finding solutions to provide suggestions for similar works. These studies pay too much attention to the translation quality and translation strategies, noticing neither the peculiarity of each version nor acceptability of each version from the perspective of target readers. With Harry Potter Series’publication and popularity, study on the peculiarity and acceptability of different versions becomes more and more important. This thesis selects哈利·波特与死亡圣器released by People’s Literature Publishing House and哈利波特——死神的圣物published by Crown Publishing Group as research subjects. Under the guidance of Skopostheorie, it deals with the acceptability of each E-C translation version at three levels:Skopos rule, Coherence rule and Fidelity rule.Through careful analysis and study of the two E-C translation versions of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the author concludes that:1) Language style is an indispensable part for judging whether a translation version can be accepted by target readers. Based on similar Skopos, the two E-C translation versions continue the style wonderfully.2)The translator takes fully account of cultural differences between China and England that could cause difficulty for Chinese readers, adopting annotation, transliteration, substitution and adaption to fill the cultural default, so that the translation can achieve textual coherence.3) Although the two E-C translation versions present their own particularity, the two E-C translation versions remain the same in content and form with the original to expose readers to British style so that they can achieve inter-textual coherence. The significance of this thesis lies in three aspects:1) In the sense of theoretical application, it is a valuable and worthy academic practice in applying Skopostheorie to a relatively new text.2) Through the comparison, the background culture behind the E-C translation versions is demonstrated, and the acceptability from the readers is testified.3) Study on Harry Potter Series is study on children’s literature translation, which provides ways and methods for children’s literature translation.
