As the main cultural carrier, words play a key role in learning, therefore, no one doubts the importance of the reading, which various exams would lay emphases on. Furthermore, reading comprehension teaching is becoming the foundation form of English teaching. Higher vocational education is one fresh branch of higher education, which insists on cultivating qualified and applied talents of the social demand. Compared with the requirements, the present situation of studying is not optimistic. To combine public English education and market, we must improve students’both basic knowledge and practical abilities, and discourse analysis is a effective approach to reach it.However, the emphatic and cut-in point for traditional teaching and learning of college English is vocabulary and structure instead of discourse analysis, which has been paid close extensive attention but the effect of it has not worked completely.Under discourse analysis theory, macro-structure and micro-structure serves as guidance for study in research on the teaching of reading. And it offers a new approach for teachers, which can help students gasp the information in the discourse and open their eyes to recognize the nature of the text, promoting the reading skill and thinking ability.For improving teaching of reading comprehension, this paper is based on investigation, proceeding from discourse analysis, introducing the "cycle of three reading steps", a new reading approach (founded by teaching practice), which is the organic combination of background, main idea, pattern and words, sentences, paragraphs. It makes students understand the framework of the text firstly, secondly hold details, and review and summarize related information in the third step, and finally, forming the benign reading cycle. When using the method in class, the author find that it made students know the text more clearly and obtained the better teaching effect. With the help of the study of theory, facts prove that the result of the study indicates that discourse analysis theory can improve the students’ reading skill sustainably.
