China and India are Asia’s two greatest civilizations, with the changes in SinoIndian relations as well as economic development of both countries and frequent tradingand due to changes in Indian government’s policy towards Chinese language. Chineselanguage received great importance in India and more people learningChinese.therefore Research on Chinese language teaching has gradually got people’sattention in India.The objective of this research paper is to analyze the Status of Chinese languageteaching in Indian universities, summarizing references from the previous researchesresult and by the interviews and data analysis method. The same would also be used tohighlight the problems existing in Chinese language teaching. I hope this research canbenefit the development and propagation of Chinese language teaching in differentIndian universities.This paper is divided into four chapters. Their contents are as follows:The first chapter introduces the research background, significance of the topic,research methods and innovations. On the basis of former research literature, theirreviews and conclusion, the chapter will summarize the related research onachievements and shortcomings of Chinese language teaching in Indian Universities anduse this as a basis for subsequent study.The second chapter is a survey on the current situation of Chinese languageteaching in Indian universities. Main contents of this survey include professionalChinese language courses in Indian Universities, teaching materials used, teachers andtheir teaching methods. During the course of investigation, apart from questionnaire andinterviews, the chapter also makes use of information available on the internet. Thusproviding a multi-pronged and yet strong argument for our topic.The third chapter is about the reasons of existing problems in Chinese languageteaching in Indian Universities. On the basis of large number of statistical data andcollated information discussed in the second chapter, we critically analyzed theproblems and reasons in the Chinese language teaching in Indian Universities.The fourth chapter is about the developing tendencies in Chinese language teaching in Indian Universities. This chapter evaluates the developing trends in the teaching ofChinese language in Indian Universities, and also put forward some relevant suggestionsand in the end of the chapter proposes some relevant measures for the existing problemsin Chinese language education in India Universities.I hope that this study helps researchers and teachers to have an objectiveunderstanding of Chinese teaching in Indian Universities; I also hope that therecommendations put forward can provide some useful references for researchers andteachers. Most importantly, I hope that this study will play an important role inpromoting Chinese language teaching in Indian universities.
