This is a project report on translation of The People of the Abyss(Chapter1~4) exposing the degeneration of the East End of London writtenby Jack London, an American realistic writer. It mainly tells what he saw andheard in the slum of East London. This report discusses the difficulties andtranslation strategies illustrated with representative example based ontranslation practice. The three major strategies including compensation,foreignization and remodeling adopted to cope with corresponding difficultiesin translating dialects, proper nouns and money unit so as to achievefaithfulness regarding content, language and literal style of the sourcelanguage. |
