This is a translation project report on Chapter One of Population Aging: Is LatinAmerica Ready? The author for this book is Daniel Cotlear who works as a chiefeconomist in the World Bank. The text type of this book belongs to social sciencesdomain. Chapter One, as an introductory part, has the same name of the book. Itdiscusses how the population aging in Latin America and Caribbean area influencesthe economic life of people in this region. This report is divided into four parts: PartOne is an overall introduction to the translation report, including reasons for the topicselection, significance and objectives. Part Two is the background of the original text,including the author introduction and the analysis of the original text. Part Three,translation process, the major part of this report, presents the translation theoriesadopted in this report, main difficulties and corresponding solutions. Part Four is asummary for the whole report. Newmark’s communicative translation theory is thetheoretical basis for this report. Combining the theory and translator’s own attempts,this report discusses the difficulties and solutions during the process of translating asocial sciences text, and draws inspiration and lessons.
