The National Liberation War broke out in1937, which intervened people’s normal life in all aspects and strongly influenced writers’lives as well as their modes of thinking. In the writing practice, closely connected with times and themselves, writers had to adjust and build their own forms of literature with a new experience, emotion and cognitive structure. Taking war as the cut-in point of time and aiming at the writing of Xiao Hong in this period, the article shows how experience in wartime influenced the production of Xiao Hong’s literary forms and analyses what the writer was concerning about and how she expressed it.This paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly presents the context of Xiao Hong’s writing, and tries to discover what kind of aesthetic style and problem consciousness she had formed in the background of war by the discussions and dialogues between her literary groups about the theme, genre, methods, significance of literary creation. The second chapter focuses on her works which directly deal with the wartime experiences, and highlights her unique literary style and writing mode by comparison of differences in spatial and temporal structure of novels and short stories. The third chapter discusses Xiao Hong’s works about her hometown in the northeast of China at this time by analyzing their combination with the war era at a deeper level as well as the association with other works in forms and thoughts.Using the method of combining text close reading with social and historical criticism, this paper attempts to show the intrinsic link between Xiao Hong’s different types of writing in the wartime, as well as its interaction with the environment. In this way, we can dynamically outline how Xiao Hong created her unique literary forms in all aspects of the theme, writing mode, style and awareness driven by her external experiences, and implied her concerns together with her thinking at the meantime.
