| The worship of the Bodhisattva of Kuan-yin was originated in ancient India, and wasintroduced to China between the two Han Dynasties. Through ages of propaganda, theworship of Kuan-yin has been penetrated into all layers of society, become one of the mostimportant religions in China. The art of Kuan-yin sculpture rises after the Udayana usinghigh quality sandalwood made the fist sculpture, and was recognized and worshiped byBuddhists. Assimilated the Chinese indigenous art and creativity, the art of Kuan-yinsculpture exhibits the creativity and artistic charm of China which enjoys thousands ofyears of history, it not only promote the history of Chinese art, but also enrich the culturebeliefs and artistic connotations of our mankind.Mt Putuo is the place of rites for the Bodhisattva of Kuan-yin, thus made it hold aoverwhelming position in the culture of Kuan-yin. This dissertation begins with the studyof the worship of Kuan-yin in ancient India, then analyses its artistic style, and studies therelation between the ancient India Kuan-yin worship and China’s. And then, thisdissertation sorts out the features of the Kuan-yin sculpture from different dynasties ofChina, and analyses the traits of Kuan-yin sculpture in Mt Putuo, then comes to proposesthe idea of the research on the utterance right of Putuo Kuan-yin sculpture in East ChinaSea. In the next chapter, this dissertation focused on the certain area of Zhoushanarchipelago, based on Mt Putuo, analyses the reasons of why did it become a famous placeof rites for Kuan-yin, proposes the idea of the utterance right of Putuo Kuan-yin sculpturein East China Sea.In the last chapter, this dissertation discusses the possibility and creativity of theutterance right of Putuo Kuan-yin sculpture in East China Sea from the aspects of culturematerial, culture norm and culture value. In conclusion, it holds a very important practicalsignificance in build the position of Putuo Kuan-yin sculpture in East China Sea. |
